End of Year Message

Thank you to students, staff, parents and our community for another wonderful year. We can not believe that the end of the school year is here. Congratulations to everyone's achievements this year and to our parents and community for the support you have shown throughout the school year.

To those of you leaving us or moving on to intermediate next year, we wish you all the very best.

On behalf of the school, we would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! May your Christmas sparkle with moments of love, laughter and goodwill and may the year ahead be full of opportunities and joy.

Until next year, have a fun-filled and safe holiday! We remind all of our parents and families that school starts back on Wednesday 30th January. We look forward to seeing you.

Thank You to "The Eden Lodge No.1530 (UGLE) "

We would like to acknowledge Pol Candia and the team at

The Eden Lodge No.1530 (UGLE) for their kind and generous donations of 3B1

notebooks to our school.

Every year, we have families in our school community that cannot afford to
purchase stationery for their children and we as a school struggle to equip them
with the correct tools to help them with their learning.

Pol, please let your team at The Eden Lodge (UGLE) know that your donation
today will definitely make it easier for us to support these students with their learning
and put a smile on their faces.

Thank you so much.  We really appreciate your donations to our school.

Parent's Open Morning

What a great turn out of family members - mums, dads, step-parents, uncles
and grandparents .  It was a lot of fun having you join in with our class activities.

The murals are looking good.  I can't wait to see the final products!

ROCK UP!

Rock climbing is really cool, in fact it made me conquer my fear of heights.

The first thing we had to do was read all twelve rules together. Next, Geoff
gave us 20 seconds to get into groups of 3.  I was teamed up with Kyrah-Lee
and Jackson.

Once Geoff had shown us what to do we had to go and work together to put
our harness on. Kyrah-Lee told me that I could go first, so I put on the harness.
When I was climbing I was so scared that I was going to fall, but luckily my
teammates were cheering me on and supporting me by shouting out good
compliments.

If we did something wrong like not doing the harness properly we would have
to do 5 push ups and my team did not want to do that, so we tried to not to do
anything wrong and tried hard to follow all the rules. When one person is
climbing you can not go on the mats, only if you are the one who is climbing.

My team got three turns each and Savana’s group got seven turns.  I really
enjoyed climbing and conquering my fears. My favorite part was when Geoff
taught us how to abseil. I was not afraid because it looked easy at first, but
then when I actually had to do it, it was so scary that I didn't want to let go,
but I had to.

I  had soooooooooo much fun that I would love to do it again. I had the best
day and I have learnt that if you are afraid of heights you can give it a try
anyway and have fun!

Kids Can Crazy Dress-Up Day

Today the school celebrated Kids Can with a Crazy Dress-Up Day theme.
These students from Rm16 came to school with their crazy hair and wacky
clothes and helped raise money for Kids Can. We had mismatched shoes,
backward clothing, spray painted hair, curls, twirls, hair ties, business ties
and shimmering eyeliner! They all looked fantastically CRAZY!

Term 1 Swimming

"Yipee!"
"We love Swimming!" scream the students at Leabank School.

The students at Leabank School are very lucky to have their very own swimming pool on the school grounds. This term all classes will be learning survival skills in and around the water along side learning to swim.

We welcome all parents to come along and participate, support or observe their child while their class is at the swimming pool. Swimming times will be displayed in your child's classroom or talk to your child's teacher.

Swimming is part of the school curriculum and it is expectated that all children participate unless they are unwell. In that case your child is required to bring a note to explain the reason for not swimming. We would appreciate your support in this area. If you have any concerns or problems please pop in to see your child's classroom teacher.

Keeping Ourselves Safe (KOS)

(Keeping Ourselves Safe Programme)
KOS letter to Parents

Home

Dear Parents/ Caregivers

In weeks four to week ten of this term (19th February-6th April) we will be teaching the
personal safety programme Keeping Ourselves Safe.

Keeping Ourselves Safe has been designed to give students the skills to cope in situations
involving abuse. It has 3 overall aims:

To develop and strengthen children’s skills to keep themselves safe with other people
To support and encourage children to get help from caring adults
To make teachers and parents/ caregivers more aware of the need to keep children safe
from abuse by adults or other children.

This programme Keeping Ourselves Safe will be taught by your child’s teacher, with support
from our school’s Police School Community Officer. This is a part of the school curriculum,
not an optional one.

To be successful Keeping Ourselves Safe needs your help and support.
Your child may have homework tasks to work on with you.
Please be aware that correct body part names are used in the section dealing with
inappropriate touching. And in many instances, Constable Nikki  will be part of these
lessons.

It is important that you participate as much as possible by talking to your child about
what they have been learning. This will help reinforce the messages the school is
giving, and help your child to use his/ her new skills with confidence.

You can look at the contents of the programmes on the Police website, or by Googling
Keeping Ourselves Safe which takes you straight to the right part of the Police website.
There is a parent portal and a teacher one, so feel free to look at both by using these links
years 0-3 or years 4-6  or by follow the links in our electronic  newsletter.

Unfortunately our school community officer Constable Nikki is unavailable to run a parent
information evening prior to week four however, please contact the school if you would like
any more information about the programme or about child abuse.

Thanking You

Rex Maddren
School Principal
